Wait for it...

Ok... so it's been awhile. There's been plenty to write about up until now... but not as important as this...

wait for it...

Luther College Women's Soccer+IIAC=CHAMPIONS!

The Luther women's soccer team defeated Coe College tonight (1-0) to solidify their grasp on the IIAC Championship. The win gave Luther another three points to keep them atop the conference standings and win the Conference Championship.

Congratulations ladies! The coaching staff especially wants to thank the five seniors-Kendra Dornfeld, Andrea Martinson, Ashley Meirick, Jill Nerka and Lisa Torgerson-who have helped mold this team for the past four years. We know you have some fight left in you gals and we're going to need it!

The game was a good one... Kendra Ledel (sophomore) scored what proved to be the game winner at 6:48 unassisted.

The Norse defense was stingy yet again! Allowing Luther goalkeeper Hannah Wright to only make four saves. (Albeit four KEY saves.) Defenders Nerka, Dornfeld, Meirick and Sami Sojka were SOLID.

This is the EIGHTH GAME IN A ROW that the Norse have held opponents SCORELESS... and the ninth shutout of the season for the Luther gals.

According to the standings, the seeding for the conference tournament should go like this:
#1 LUTHER COLLEGE NORSE
#2 Dubuque University
#3 Loras College
#4 Watrburg College
#5 Simpson College
#6 Coe College

So that means... Tues/Wed Loras will play Coe and Wartburg will play Simpson to get into the semifinal games. On Friday (games are -wethink- 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) Luther will play the winner of the Wartburg/Simpson game and Dubuque will play the winner of the Loras/Coe game.

And on Saturday (game times unknown) the conference tournament championship will be held. The winner of this game will get the direct bid to the national tournament.

Keep us in your thoughts alumni and friends of Luther soccer!

PS the men were tied 0-0 at half of the Luther/Coe game!! (And playing well-an exciting game!!)
